PRANA Single Room MVHR – Dublin Apartment Project

Improving indoor comfort and tackling winter condensation with PRANA heat recovery ventilation in a third-floor Dublin apartment.

PRANA Single Room MVHR – Dublin Apartment Project

about project

This Dublin project involved a third-floor apartment suffering from severe condensation and humidity during the winter months. Poor roof insulation combined with limited air circulation created a persistent problem — water droplets on windows, damp surfaces, and stale indoor air.

Even with windows constantly open, the air quality did not improve. Cold air rushed in, but humid, stale air remained trapped inside, creating an uncomfortable and unhealthy living environment. The client needed a permanent, energy-efficient solution. That’s where the PRANA single room MVHR system came in.

Client’s Challenge

Constant Humidity – Moisture build-up caused dampness, risking long-term damage and mold.

Ineffective Natural Ventilation – Open windows only brought in cold air without removing humidity.

Limited Roof Insulation – Poor insulation worsened the problem by keeping the apartment cold and prone to condensation.

Existing Vent Openings – Old ventilation points were too small for modern MVHR units, requiring precise adjustments.

Our approach and solution

Our team installed two PRANA single room MVHR units, one in each bedroom. These units are designed to simultaneously supply fresh air and extract stale, humid air, with no mixing between airflows.

The system uses a patented copper heat exchanger to recover heat from outgoing air and transfer it to incoming fresh air. This ensures the rooms stay warm in winter while maintaining excellent air quality.

For the installation:

Existing ventilation openings were widened using diamond core drilling.

Because the surface was damp, some plasterboard and paint around the openings were damaged. After fitting the units, we repaired the affected areas with filler for a clean finish.

Both units were fitted neatly, ensuring minimal disruption to the apartment interior.

result

The difference was immediate:

Fresh, Dry Air – No more condensation on windows, reduced humidity in both bedrooms.

Energy Efficiency – Warmth is retained thanks to the copper heat exchanger, avoiding heat loss from open windows.

Silent Comfort – The PRANA units provide quiet, continuous ventilation suitable for bedrooms.

Healthier Living Space – Stale air, excess moisture, and the risk of mold have been eliminated.
