Expert Solutions for Modern Garden Room – Gym
about project
This 17m² garden room in Kingscourt was purpose-built to function as a private home gym, offering a warm, quiet, and comfortable environment for daily workouts in any season. The building sits on an insulated floating concrete foundation, providing excellent stability and thermal performance.
The structure is built from 124mm OSB SIP wall panels and a 174mm OSB SIP roof system, both engineered for airtightness and superior energy efficiency. All SIP joints were sealed internally and externally with Gerband airtightness tape, ensuring a fully sealed envelope and consistent indoor climate control. C24 timber joints provide additional structural strength and durability.
Externally, the building features a double-batten ventilated facade finished with northern spruce natural wood cladding, factory-coated in Tikkurila woodstain to protect against the Irish weather while preserving a clean, natural timber look.
The windows and doors are Veka Softline 70 series — triple glazed for high thermal and acoustic performance, enhancing both comfort and energy efficiency.
Internally, a metal stud wall system with plasterboard and skim coat was installed, leaving the walls ready for final painting and giving the space a clean, modern aesthetic.
To maintain perfect air quality and balanced temperature, the gym was equipped with a PRANA heat recovery ventilation system, which continuously supplies fresh, oxygen-rich air while recovering heat from the exhaust air. This creates a comfortable workout environment with no condensation, odours, or stale air buildup.
This project highlights how a compact SIP-based garden gym can deliver a professional-grade training space with excellent energy performance, modern finishes, and long-term sustainability.
