Designing the Future of Garden Pod

This bespoke 17m² garden pod was designed and assembled in Co. Clare to provide a high-performing, eco-friendly space for year-round use. Built entirely from SIP technology, the pod combines strength, airtightness, and excellent thermal insulation with natural wood finishes to achieve a clean, modern look that blends seamlessly into the garden setting.
Client’s Challenge
The client required a compact, insulated space that could be used in all seasons while minimising ground disturbance and ongoing maintenance. Given the location, the building also needed to withstand Ireland’s damp climate and deliver excellent energy efficiency.
Our approach and solution
We designed the pod using high-spec MGO SIP panels: 124 mm walls, 174 mm roof, and 174 mm floor, all precision-sealed with Gerband airtightness tape. Ground screws with a 6×3 treated subframe provided a fast and stable foundation without heavy excavation. For durability, the roof was covered with a Firestone EPDM membrane, while the ventilated double-batten facade was clad in factory-painted Northern spruce, finished with Tikkuurila coating for long-lasting protection. Veka Softline 70 triple-glazed windows ensured maximum natural light with outstanding thermal performance.

The finished pod offers a warm, bright, and quiet retreat that exceeds modern energy-efficiency expectations. The natural timber facade softens its appearance within the garden, while the structural build ensures the pod remains solid, airtight, and maintenance-friendly for years to come.
