Shaping Tomorrow’s Garden Office
about project
This 16m² garden office was designed and built to provide a warm, energy-efficient workspace that performs exceptionally well year-round in the Irish climate. The structure sits on a galvanised ground screw foundation with a 6×3 treated timber subframe, ensuring stability and zero concrete waste.
The floor system features 174mm SIP panels (OSB + MgO) with Neopor core, complemented by an additional 30mm XPS insulation layer internally, achieving a U-value of approximately 0.16 W/m²K.
Walls are built from 174mm SIP OSB panels with an extra 30mm PIR insulation layer, delivering a U-value of around 0.14 W/m²K. The external finish includes a double batten ventilated facade clad in northern spruce natural wood, factory-painted with Tikkurila charcoal black for long-lasting weather protection and a striking contemporary appearance.
Aluminium Aluprof windows and doors were chosen for their slimline design and exceptional thermal performance. The triple-glazed units provide excellent sound insulation and contribute to an overall window U-value of about 0.9 W/m²K.
The 174mm SIP roof panels are finished with a Firestone EPDM rubber membrane — a robust, maintenance-free roofing solution with a U-value near 0.16 W/m²K. The roof edges are finished with Ruukki matt roof caps and sealed window flashings for a refined, watertight finish.
Inside, the SIP joints were sealed and painted white for a clean, minimalist aesthetic. Electrical installation was completed using exposed steel conduit, giving the interior an industrial-style character while maintaining practicality and durability.
This project showcases how sustainable materials and precision SIP technology can deliver a comfortable, low-energy workspace that’s both stylish and built to last.
improvement and a sleek, modern façade. The corrugated metal roof covering was chosen for durability and long-term weather protection.
